ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the Police Public Relations Officer, issued a statement on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command

The statement says according to credible information received by the Command, individuals are mobilizing youths to participate in the protest. While acknowledging the fundamental human rights to peaceful assembly, the police emphasize that protests often get hijacked by individuals with ulterior motives, leading to unrest and violence.

Borno State, still recovering from over a decade of insurgency, remains under emergency status with ongoing military operations under Operation Hadin Kai. As such, the ban on public processions in the state remains in force.

The Command, collaborating with other security agencies, is prepared to prevent any acts of lawlessness. Organizers and sponsors of the planned protest are advised to abandon their plans, as any attempt to target critical public infrastructure will be treated as an act of terrorism.

Parents and guardians are urged to caution their wards against participating in such activities. The public is encouraged to remain law-abiding and to report any suspicious activities using the emergency contacts provided: 0806 807 5581, 0802 347 3293.
