In the early hours of January 9, 2025, gallant officers of the Nganzai Police Division thwarted a daring attack by suspected Boko Haram terrorists. The attackers, armed with firearms and explosives, were met with fierce resistance, forcing them to retreat after a prolonged gun battle.
Tragically, two officers lost their lives when hand-grenades launched by the assailants struck a shelter tent behind the station. Their sacrifices were honored today by the Borno State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Yusufu Lawal, who conducted an on-site assessment and extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
During the visit, officers of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit from Base 13 Maiduguri recovered two unexploded hand-grenades, ensuring the area’s safety. The deceased officers were taken to the State General Hospital in Maiduguri for necessary formalities.
CP Lawal lauded the resilience and bravery of his officers, emphasizing the Command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of citizens. “We remain resolute in our duty to protect Borno State. These officers’ sacrifices will never be forgotten,” he stated.
