As part of its intensified efforts to ensure public safety during the Yuletide season, the Borno State Police Command, led by CP Yusufu Mohammed Lawal has recorded a major breakthrough in crime prevention. Two suspects have been apprehended, and 25 stolen mobile phones recovered in a decisive operation.
The Incident
On December 10, 2024, at approximately 1:50 PM, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Command conducted a stop-and-search operation along Damboa Road in Maiduguri. During the operation, two suspects—18-year-olds Ibrahim Abubako and Ibrahim Mohammed—were intercepted in a tricycle. A thorough search revealed 25 mobile phones of various models in their possession.
Upon interrogation, the suspects admitted to snatching the phones from residents across communities along the Borno-Adamawa State border, including Mubi, Tashan Alade, Miringa, Kwaya Kusar, and Biu Local Government Area.
Next Steps
The suspects are in custody and will be charged to court after the investigation concludes. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to return the recovered phones to their rightful owners.
