Borno Partners with Lake Chad Basin Forum to Boost Trade,Security

The Borno State Government is set to partner with the Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum to revive transborder trade and enhance regional security with neighboring countries.

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum made this commitment while receiving the Forum’s Chairlady and Governor of Hadjer-Lamis Province, Chad Republic, Madam Ildjima Abdulrahman, at the council chambers of the Government House in Maiduguri today.

Governor Zulum acknowledged Chad Republic’s support for Borno’s refugees and emphasized the need for accelerated transborder trade and cooperation. He highlighted the establishment of the Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum in 2018 to promote regional integration, economic development, and social progress.

The Governor assured full support for the success of the forthcoming Forum meeting in Borno.

Earlier, Chairlady Abdulrahman, speaking through an interpreter, commended Governor Zulum’s efforts in rehabilitating and rebuilding communities destroyed by insurgents. She also expressed solidarity with the people of Borno over the long-standing insurgency crisis.

Abdulrahman praised Governor Zulum’s initiatives in reintegrating and supporting refugees and internally displaced persons. She noted that her visit aimed to formally inform Borno State of the intention to hold the upcoming Lake Chad Basin Governors’ meeting in the state.
