Borno on the Brink: Rufai Monguno Raises Alarm Over Looming Flood Disaster, Urges Tinubu’s Swift Intervention

Katsina state government

A passionate call for urgent federal intervention has been issued by Alhaji Rufai Monguno, Chairman of the Governorship Candidates Forum of Borno State, warning that the state stands on the edge of another devastating flood crisis due to the deteriorating condition of the Alau Dam.

In a powerful public appeal titled “Urgent Call to Action: Save Borno from Flood Disaster”, Monguno urged residents to remain prayerful and alert while demanding immediate and decisive action from the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“The time to act is now,” Monguno stated. “Despite Governor Zulum’s tireless efforts, we must acknowledge that this is a national emergency that requires federal might. If nothing is done swiftly, Maiduguri, Jere, and surrounding communities could face catastrophic consequences.”

Recalling the dam’s collapse on September 10, 2024, Monguno emphasized that nearly a year has passed without a lasting solution, and warned that another failure could be disastrous.

He urged the Federal Government to:

  • Cut through red tape and bureaucratic delays,
  • Mobilize resources to repair and reinforce the dam immediately,
  • Implement sustainable measures to prevent future collapses.

Calling for unity, Monguno encouraged all citizens, leaders, and stakeholders to join in the collective plea to save Borno.

“The lives and livelihoods of millions are at stake,” he concluded. “Let us not wait for tragedy to strike before action is taken.”
