The Borno State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Barrister Hauwa Abubakar, has extended humanitarian support to flood victims in Maiduguri Metropolitan and Jere LGAs. The intervention, which targeted 200 affected individuals, including men, women, and persons with disabilities, involved the distribution of essential food and non-food items.
Speaking at the distribution, Barrister Hauwa Abubakar acknowledged the challenges posed by the floods but emphasized her team’s commitment to reaching the most vulnerable. The items distributed included rice, mats, insecticide-treated mosquito nets, blankets, clothes, and plastic buckets, among others, aimed at easing the hardships faced by the victims.
“We are dedicated to continuing our support for those in need, as they work to rebuild their lives,” Hauwa said. “We hope this gesture provides some relief and comfort as the recovery process begins.”
Barrister Hauwa also expressed gratitude to the Borno State Government and all contributors, urging the community to remain united in offering hope and support in the face of adversity.
In a related initiative, the Attorney General, who also serves as a peace ambassador, collaborated with the CEO of Dark Green Leaves Initiative to provide further assistance. Contributions included: 500 bags of rice, 500 pieces of 0lastoc mats, 500 pieces blankets and 500 wrappers.
The Centre is calling on peace ambassadors to join the ongoing humanitarian support efforts for flood victims. Currently available for distribution are:
Ten irrigation kits donated by Kickstart Africa and Ambassador Ademola Festus, with two additional kits from Barrister Hauwa Abubakar and PACHE.
Ten packages of dignity kits, mosquito coils, and used clothes donated by Ambassador Usman Aliyu.
