Borno IRS Rakes in N2.8bn in Less than two Month, Block multiple Leakages, Tergeting over ₦19B in 2024

Borno State Government has generated N2.8 billion Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) between Jan. 1 and Feb. 15, 2024.

Prof. Bello Ibrahim Alh. , Executive Chairman of the Borno State Internal Revenue Service (BIRS), disclosed this while interacting with newsmen during a press conference on Friday afternoon at the headquarters of the agency along Kano road, Maidugur.

Prof. Ibrahim Bello Alhaji who was a chairman of Borno state Micro finance Bank says the Service collected N1.7 billion revenues in January while N1.1 billion had been generated from Feb. 1 to Feb. 15 2024.

Financial and tax expert further stressed that the Service also generated N19.4 billion from Ministries, Departments and Agencies as well as local government councils in 2023.

The Chairman said the state recorded remarkable increase in its revenue generation sequel to blockage of leakages, dedication and improved staff welfare as well as application of modern technology that eased tax collection payment systems.

 

The performance and huge successes achieved by the Governor Babagana Umara Zulum’s administration is due to the consolidation of the state government’s aggressive IGR drive across major sectors of the economy,” he said.

He commended Borno citizen for their readiness and willingness at all time to pay their taxes .

He also disclosed that era of traditional tax collection is no longer acceptable due to the advent of modern equipment and technology.

He said a tax payer can pay their taxes through their android phone in three installmental payments if they wish to do. Assuring that the pavement directly goes into the state govt account. Adding that tax payers may choose to pay through their various licensed POS agents.

He said the agency usually credit state government’s account twice in a month that’s on 15 and 30th of every month

Equally the director legal of the agency also stated that tax defaulters will be imprisoned for 18 years and will be enforced to pay sum of 25% of the amount the tax defaulters is Innitially expected to pay, however he commended the good people of Borno stste for cooperation, recognition at all time.
