Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has appealed to traditional rulers in Bauchi state to prevail on their people to be extra vigilant and report suspicious movements of persons to security agencies for necessary actions.
The Governor recalled the recent reports of kidnapping and banditry in Bula district of Tafawa Local Government Area bordering Plateau state to which the Bauchi state government is collaborating with security agencies to address the problem and other security challenges across the state,
Senator Bala Mohammed also stated that “Let me use this opportunity to remind Your Royal Highness of the role of traditional rulers in maintaining law and order in their domains through vigilance and prayers to complement government’s effort in this direction”.
Speaking while receiving the emir of Bauchi, Dr. Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu Monday when he paid a Sallah homage to the Government House, the governor also called on the traditional rulers to ensure mutual respect and peaceful coexistence among their people irrespective of their ethnic, religious or political differences.
Represented by his deputy, Rt. Hon. Auwal Mohammed Jatau, the governor added, the governor added, “The traditional rulers should also imbibe the spirit of forgiveness, tolerance and love for one another. This call has become more imperative now, more than ever before, because of the security challenges being faced by some of our border communities”.
He explained that as the state government strive to invite investors to Bauchi, it cannot afford to allow security challenges to discourage them from coming to invest in the state, hence the need for the traditional leaders to educate their people for the continued understanding and support to the government’s policies and programmes.
Senator Bala Mohammed further recalled that his administration which has been put in place through a popular mandate freely given by the people was not only committed to bringing about positive change, but would also ensure that lives and property of all citizens are wei protected
“We are desirous of creating an environment where all citizens would pursue their lawful activities without let or hindrance. To this end, we have since coming on board in 2019 and our subsequent re-election in 2023, embarked on the provision of infrastructural facilities and social amenities across the state”.
“You will bear me witness that these initiatives have changed the lives of the people of Bauchi State for the better. Ours is a government that is determined to do more with the little resources at its disposal. This entails prudent management of resources and plugging leakages to free resources for execution of various projects”.
Governor Bala who said that while his administration is trying to ensure value for money, it need the support and cooperation of traditional rulers to succeed, especially in the delivery of dividends of democracy to the people, saying the
sustenance of this age-long tradition of Sallah homa is a manifestation of the support and honour he enjoy from the traditional institution in the state.
Mohammed told the emirs, district heads, village and wards heads that the mutual understanding between government and the traditional institution in the state will go a long way in strengthening the existing cordial relationship between the two parties, concliding “Iam most appreciative and grateful for the gesture”
.
