Bloody Brawl: Youth Gang Clash Turns Deadly in Maiduguri

Maiduguri was rocked by violence on April 4, 2025, as a brutal clash between rival Malian youth gangs claimed the life of an 18-year-old, Bakura Muhammed.

According to intelligence sources, the chao erupted around 4:30 PM in the volatile Ajari and Tashan Lara areas, where tensions boiled over into a full-blown street fight. Witnesses say the scuffle quickly turned deadly when Bakura was stabbed in the stomach during the melee.

Security personnel rushed the wounded teenager to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, but he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Police have since arrested seven suspects aged 15 to 24, including Ba’abba Kyari (20), Ali Alhaji GoniAli (20), Muhammed Audu (18), Ali Isa (15), Adam Sabir (15), Mohammed Tujja (17), and Usman Kasim (24). Authorities confirm the hunt is on for others who fled the scene.

Bakura’s body was placed in the hospital morgue for autopsy and later released to his family for burial in line with Islamic traditions.

As Maiduguri reels from yet another flash of youth-fueled violence, residents are calling for swift justice and urgent intervention to stem the growing menace of gang-related unrest.
