It was a crushing blow for ISWAP on Thursday as troops of the Nigerian Army neutralized a top commander, Abou Ameer, during a failed infiltration attempt in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
Sources revealed that Abou Ameer, recently installed as the Ameer (Qaid) of Pulka, met his end while leading the ill-fated operation against a military formation.
His rise to command had followed the earlier elimination of his predecessor, Modu Kunduli, in Mayanti village, Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.
The insurgents reportedly advanced under the cover of darkness but were met with fierce and coordinated resistance from alert troops, who unleashed heavy firepower, forcing the attackers into disarray.
In the ensuing clash, several senior ISWAP commanders, including Abu Ali Jango, Jundulla, and Saleh Madagali, were said to have sustained gunshot wounds as they fled the battlefield.
Security sources further disclosed that troops recovered weapons and vital intelligence materials from the scene, signaling sustained military pressure on insurgent operations across the North East.
The failed assault marks yet another setback for the terror group, reinforcing the military’s dominance and vigilance in the ongoing counter-insurgency campaign.
