The Pro Chancellor of Bauchi State University, Professor Ango Abdullahi has expressed the University Council’s unanimous decision to adopt the new name of the institution in honor of late Nigerian Nationalist and Politician, Sa’adu Zungur University.
The renaming of the University is sequel to Governor Bala Mohammed’s signing of the bill to rename the institution as recently passed by the State House of Assembly and subsequently assented to by the governor
The decision was reached by the council members under the chairmanship of Professor Ango Abdullahi during meeting held on Thursday, 7th May, 2024 at Yuli Campus, signifying a milestone in the university’s rich history.
A press statement signed by the varsity’s public relations officer, Auwal Hassan Thursday, said that the Governing Council has expressed its support for the renaming of the university, emphasizing the importance of honoring the memory of individuals who have played pivotal roles in shaping the history and identity of the nation.
It stated that Governor Bala Mohammed’s initiative to rename the university after Sa’adu Zungur has been widely praised by various stakeholders, including faculty members, alumni, and the general public, saying the decision reflects a deep sense of appreciation for the sacrifices and achievements of Sa’adu Zungur in the service of the people.
The decision to rename the institution to Sa’adu Zungur University reflects the Bauchi state government’s commitment to honoring Nigeria’s heritage, promoting national unity, and fostering a spirit of excellence among its students, faculties, and staff.
The Council therefore seeks to celebrate the contributions of Sa’adu Zungur and inspire the university community to uphold the values of integrity, leadership, and services which the erudite scholar exemplified during his life time.
Also speaking, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Fatimah Tahir opined that the renaming of the instruction to Sa’adu Zungur University is a symbolic gesture that underscores the values of integrity, leadership, and excellence that the university upholds.
Professor Fatimah Tahir who believed that the renaming will serve as a symbol of the university’s dedication to academic excellence and societal impact, said it also serves as a testament to the enduring legacy of Sa’adu Zungur and his enduring impact on the educational landscape of Bauchi state.
The council is therefore committed to ensuring a smooth transition process and implementing the necessary changes to reflect the new name of the university, as its community is encouraged to embrace this historic decision with pride and a renewed sense of purpose
