Bauchi Traditional Institution Lends Credence To CITAD Digital literacy Programme For Young Women 

The traditional title holder of Galadiman Bauchi, Surveyor Ibrahim Sa’idu Jahun has commended the Centre for Information Technology & Development (CITAD) for its conduct of digital literacy and economic empowerment young women in the society.

Galadima told the training participants that the programme is specifically important, but the most important thing is it’s sustainability which, he explained, would go along way in not only empowering the women economically, but also curbing poverty among the womenfolk, and in the society generally.

“I am here to give a goodwill message to this programme which is very very important, but the most important thing is it’s sustainability. And we as a traditional institution, we will make sure that we support the programme to it’s highest level of implementation in our domain”, Surveyor Jahun said.

CITAD Executive Director, Yunusa Zakari Ya’u has said that the aim of training is to get the support of all the stakeholders in the state to help in supporting and mobilizing young women that will participate in the digital literacy training as well as sensitize young women and the public in general on the importance of digital skills.

Ya’u said, “We have been to Kano, Jigawa and today we are in Bauchi, next week we will be in Yobe state. These are the four selected implementation states that we are going to be carrying out the programme”.

Represented by CITAD Gender Project Officer, Zainab Aminu, the Executive Director said that the training was also aimed at helping the  stakeholder to understand the context of the implementation stage of the project.

Alh. Yunusa Ya’u explained that the project further aims at addressing barriers that exclude women and girls from accessing digital opportunities, fostering equitable economic development in Nigeria.

Ya’u positioned, “The world is moving towards digitalization, so women need to be involved in digitalization, especially for economic Development. We have gathered here to ensure that our stakeholders are aware that we are bringing this project to Bauchi state”.

He further explained, “We want them to support us in creating awareness through the mobilization of young women from the grassroot areas of the state so that can participate in this digital  literacy programme”

“If you look at the existing digital space, in as much as people are having access to digital devices, you will notice that women are marginalized in exploring opportunities that the digital world brings, such as employment opportunities, job creation, and online businesses.

The director added, “Women have been marginalized in exploring alot’ more opportunities, and that is why we are training women so that they can utilize these digital space to promote economic resilience and reduce poverty within our states”.

Also Speaking, the Bauchi State Deputy Director of the National Orientation Agency(NOA), Adamu Sarki commended CITAD for organizing the training for stakeholders, saying that the project when implemented will help breaching gender divide and empower women in the state

Deputy director Sarki said, “We commend the effort of CITAD for this training because gender digital divide is one of the impediments for women empowerment in Nigeria, especially in this era of digital economy”

“Without women being empowered digitally, they cannot cope with trends going on in the world .We thank CITAD for the foresight and we are happy that Bauchi is among the four states included to benefit immensely from the project”.

Sarki further stated”We, in Bauchi state are suffering from a lot of developmental issues, especially in the area of low level of literacy among women in addition to digital divide

CITAD has engaged Bauchi stakeholders in digital literacy skills training, inclusion and empowerment programme for young women between the ages of 18 to 35 years within the 19 northern states of the federation
