Sequel to the directive by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, the Bauchi state command of the Force has weekend embarked on third-party vehicle insurance policy enforcement.
To this end, the state commissioner of police, CP Auwal Musa Mohammed has called on all the Command’s personnel to demonstrate professionalism and integrity throughout the critical enforcement process.
“The Command has embark on the third-party vehicle insurance policy enforcement effective today, February 1, 2025, as directed by the 22nd Indigenous Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun”, Bauchi state Police Public Relations officer (PPRO), CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil said.
The initiative, according to the PPRO, aligns with Section 68 of the Insurance Act and Sections 1, 2 – 3 of the Motor Vehicle (Third-Party Insurance) Act, which require all vehicle owners to secure a minimum of Third-Party Insurance before operating their vehicles on Nigerian roads.
The Commissioner underscored the vital role that public trust and confidence play in the effectiveness of the Police Force, stressing “Officers must maintain high standards of conduct, as any breaches will carry profound implications”.
CP Auwal Musa Mohammed therefore encouraged all vehicle owners in Bauchi state to ensure their insurance documents are current, thereby contributing to a safer driving environment for everyone.
“To facilitate this enforcement, a dedicated team comprising Divisional Traffic Officers (DTOs), representatives from the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), and staff from the Bauchi State Internal Revenue Service will be actively involved”, CSP Wakil explained.
According to the Command’s Spokesperson, “By collaborating together, we can enhance road safety and effectively uphold the law for the benefit of our community”.
