The Commissioner of Police in Bauchi, CP Auwal Musa Mohammed has said that his Command had during the preciding year implemented various crime prevention measures that integrate both traditional practices and scientific methodologies, including consistent intelligence-led policing.
According to the commissioner, the initiatives have further been enhanced through collaborations with sister security agencies and non-governmental organizations to effectively addressed all forms of criminal activity in Bauchi state, with tremendous achievements.
Mohammed said that it was also in line with the Command’s commitment to accountable and transparent service delivery that it had during the period under review addressed instances of professional misconduct within the State Force Personnel.
The Commissioner who was briefing the press on security operations of the during the year 2024, revealed that 18 of the Command’s personnel were internally disciplined, specifically the dismissal of a police constable, rank reductions for 4 officers, issuance of warning letters to 6 personnel, and reprimand for four, among others.
“Moreover, our Complaint Response Unit (CRU), functioning within the Police Public Relations Department, has played a critical role in addressing public complaints against the misconduct of our officers and men” the commissioner recalled.
He stated that during the period Ten (10) complaints the response unit received were meticulously investigated, culminating to the recovery of ₦784,000 from the implicated officers, and duly returned to the affected victims.
The commissioner disclosed that the command has during the proceeding year recorded the arrest of 2, 322 suspects from the 1182 cases for the period, with 678 cases and 895 suspects subsequently charged to court.
CP Auwal Mohammed also revealed that a total of one thousand, one hundred and eighty-two (1182) cases were recorded in 2024, resulting in the arrest of two thousand three hundred and twenty-two (2322) suspects, saying, of these figures, six hundred and seventy-eight (678) cases and eight hundred and ninety-five (895) suspects were subsequently charged to court.
According to him, forty-eight (48) cases involving eighty-two (82) suspects culminated in successful convictions, while three hundred and ninety-six (396) cases involving eight hundred and sixteen (816) suspects remain pending trial, while thirty (30) cases are currently under investigation.
Mohammed further told the press that his Command documented seventy-three (73) cases of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), and gave recovery during the period under review, as
23 AK-47 rifles; 4 G-3 riffles; 3 SMG riffles; 22 fabricated or cut-to-size firearms; as well as 5 fabricated pistols; and seven hundred and forty-six (746) live ammunitions of various calibres.
Others recoveries, the commissioner outlined, included 32 magazine; 100 cartridges; 68 cutlasses; 26 Knives; 10 motor vehicles; 29 motorcycles; 69 handsets; 28 tricycles; and a whooping cash of ₦22,038,000, saying the successes were facilitated through critical information provided by the public whom, he said, remained essential partners in the effort to ensure a safe and secure environment in the state.
The commissioner assured that the state command is fully prepared and equipped for the 2025 year which was just ushered in with further deployment of strategies to safeguard the lives and property of citizens.
Mohammed expressed his sincere gratitude to the citizens of Bauchi state for their continued cooperation with the Nigeria Police Force, as he extended similar gesture to sister agencies, quasi-security outfits, traditional and religious institutions for their steadfast support in fostering a safer Bauchi
He also commended the personnel of the Nigeria Police Force in Bauchi for their professionalism, dedication, and sacrifices, which culminated to the Command’s successes during the period under review.
“I also wish to express my profound appreciation to the Bauchi State Government, under the distinguished leadership of His Excellency, the Executive Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed CON (Kauran Daular Usmaniyya), for his unwavering support and commitment to enhancing the operational capacity of the Nigeria Police Force in the state”, the commissioner said.
CP Mohammed therefore reassured that his command would remained steadfast in its mandate of ensuring peace and security, and appealed to the public to continue providing timely and accurate information to the police operatives, stressing that policing is a collective responsibility, and citizens cooperation is imperative to their success.
The Commissioner assured his command would remained steadfast in its commitment to continuing internal disciplinary procedures for personnel who do not uphold the established standards, thereby ensuring accountability and fostering continuous improvement in the service delivery.
CP Mohammed also said that it’s in accordance with the policy trust of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, aimed at combating crime and enhancing the safety of all citizens for economic development, that the Bauchi State Command under his leadership is implementing decisive measures to address criminal activities within the state.
“Our efforts will primarily focus on proactive initiatives designed to deny safe havens to criminal elements who may seek to challenge our commitments. In furtherance of this objective, the Command has undertaken a comprehensive reassessment of its crime prevention strategies, with Community Policing serving as the foundational element of our approach”, CP Auwal stated.
Police Commissioner Auwal Musa Mohammed attributed the tremendous achievements recorded during the period under review to the personnel efforts of the Command’s State Criminal Investigation Department, the State Intelligence Department (SID), and Area commands, alongside thirty-three (33) Divisional Headquarters and tactical units attached to the command
