The Chief Imam of Kofar Dumi (Jordan) Jumu’at Mosque in Bauchi metropolis, Sheikh Rabi’u Shehu has admonished adherents of the Islamic faith, especially those holding Annual Maulud celebrations to take into cognisance that such activities were not in tandem with the love of the Holy Prophet of Islam, Muhammad – PBUH.

Imam Rabi’u Shehu recalled that the Islamic cleric who introduced the annual event of Maulud celebrations about 800 or so years ago, was not a descendant or direct disciple (Sahaba) of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), emphasizing that the scholar introduced the event out of bid’at and lust.

Sheikh Rabi’u Shehu in his Friday sermon yesterday, noted that if any Muslim can show love to the Prophet of Islam, that should be his Sahaba (s), but none of them ever held such event in their life times, after the Wafat of Muhammad (SAW).

He wondered how the adherents of Islam, mostly of the Tijjaniya Movement in Nigeria, and in Bauchi in particular during the annual Maulud roams the metropolitan streets on foots procession in both males and females amalgam drumming and dancing, singing various praises of Prophet Muhammad, and spending the whole day without necessarily observing the obligatory, all in the name of love for Muhammad (SAW).

Shehu queried that if the free-twining of both males and females of different shades or classes, especially the previous night when the disciples converged at the Bauchi stadium till day break where they were read traditions of the Prophet is in tandem with religious norms and values, such event would have been globally held, but not in few Nigerian cities as it’s now happening.

The Kofar Dumi Imam therefore berated the Bauchi State Sharia Commission for outlawing anti-social and anti-religious activities at matrimonial celebrations such as musical drumming and singing at homes and streets, only to allow Maulud agitators doing the unlawful.

Imam Shehu also warned the Maulud celebrators or celebrities that the massenger of Allah, Prophet Muhammad (SAW) would on the day of judgement court them before the Creator to defend such action they perpetrate in the name of love for him.
