Bauchi Education Ministry Adopts 21st Innovation for Effective Service Delivery

Education Commissioner in Bauchi state, Dr. Jamila Mohammed Dahiru has said that her ministry has been repositioned with information communication technology (ICT) to adopt to the 21st Century innovations for enhanced service delivery.

To this end, he said, the ministry is using ICT for transparent conduct of transactions, online access to essential services and the removal of age-long corrupt practices through modern tools like e-payment, online registration, and payment of bursaries, among others.

Dr. Jamila Mohammed Dahiru at the re-introduced ministerial press briefing in Bauchi Wednesday, said that “We are also proud of his Excellency’s magnanimity in the provision constructions of schools, classrooms, renovations and upgrading of schools, as well as provision of teaching and learning resources, vibrant logistic and management tools”.

She told the reintroduced press briefing abandoned 13 years ago that the provisions are deployed like biometrics operators for teacher attendance, quality assurance software for teacher monitoring, evaluation, and coaching in all public schools, in addition to the existing support of the zonal and sub-zonal education offices across the state.

“Bauchi state education sector under the able leadership of Governor Bala Abdulkadir continue to enjoy financial stability with increase in budgetary allocation to 16% more than Abuja declaration, prompt payment of matching grants, staff salaries, promotion claims, and allowances”.

“Jamila said, “want to thank our Governor and other members of the executive arm, our lawmakers for their unwavering support to the educational sector in Bauchi State. While we celebrate our strengths and opportunities, we must confront our weaknesses and address our threats to propel Bauchi State towards an even brighter educational future”.

According to her, Governor  Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir has continued to provide the ministry with strong political-will, unwavering commitment and visionary leadership and guidance, stressing that the declaration of  state of emergency in education sector has yield various transformative initiatives, exemplified by his strategic actions.
She explained that their efforts are geared towards translating the educational framework into tangible outcomes for every child, saying the currently basic foundation of education in the state falls under the purview of her ministry with six departments, agencies, and boards.
The commissioner said that the ministry and it’s agencies oversees a network of 3,854 primary schools, 1,038 junior secondary schools, and 450 senior secondary schools, totalling 5,342 schools, and  collaborate closely with 1463 registered private schools in the state.

“The Ministry also manages a total of 1,356 nomadic schools and non-formal centres, married women schools, and Islamic Quranic and Tsangaya Schools through Bauchi State Agency for Mass Education (BASAME), and Bauchi SItate Agency for Nomadic Education (BASANE)”, she revealed .

“Insights from the last Annual School Census ASC indicates that the public primary school sector boasts a total enrollment of 1,808,256 with girls constituting 48% of this number. Approximately 1,470,625 constitutes the pre-primary and primary schools enrolment. 216,326 for junior secondary schools, and 121,305 enrollment fighure in our senior secondary schools”.

“Our technical secondary schools enrollment stands at 3,886. While 113,937 is recorded as the enrolment of our non-formal centers and the existing Islamic and Quranic Tsangaya Schools. Similarly, the private schools contribute a total of 228,030 of our students enrolment’.

Dr. Jamila disclosed that cumulatively, Bauchi state has an approximate 2,154,109 total enrollment of pupils and students at the basic and post basic levels across both public and private, formal and non-formal schools and centers.
