Armed bandits have killed three members of the Civilian Protection Group (CPG) in a deadly afternoon raid on Magamin Diddi District of Maradun Local Government Area in Zamfara State, security sources have confirmed.
The attack, which occurred around 4:00 p.m., reportedly involved a large group of heavily armed assailants who engaged the local security volunteers in a fierce exchange of gunfire before overpowering them and fleeing with their rifles.
The victims were identified as Nasiru Gaji, Jamilu Ibrahim, and Bashar Dan Inna. Their bodies were later evacuated to General Hospital Maradun for postmortem examination and subsequently released to their families for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
Sources disclosed that the attackers escaped into nearby hideouts after seizing the firearms, raising fresh concerns over the growing boldness of criminal elements in the area.
Following the incident, security operatives have been placed on high alert across Maradun LGA, with intensified patrols aimed at tracking down the fleeing suspects and preventing further violence.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements to authorities as efforts continue to restore calm in the troubled district.
