Fresh violence has shaken Benue State as suspected armed bandits ambushed commuters in Apa Local Government Area, leaving one person dead and another battling for survival.
Security sources said the attack occurred around 4:00 p.m. on January 24 along the Amoke–Odugbo road in Ukpogo Village, Edikwu Ward. The victims—Mr. Joseph Okoh and Miss Aneh Sunday, both from Ogodumo in Adoka, Otukpo LGA—were riding a motorcycle when the assailants struck.
“They were rushed to the Comprehensive Health Centre, Ugbokpo, where Mr. Okoh was confirmed dead while receiving treatment,” the source said. “Miss Sunday is currently admitted and responding to treatment.”
In response, troops of the Nigerian Army were swiftly mobilised to the area, with a search of surrounding bushes underway to track down the attackers.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force has launched a full investigation, as the Criminal Investigation Department works to unravel the circumstances behind the deadly ambush.
The latest incident underscores persistent security challenges along rural roads in parts of Benue, heightening calls for sustained patrols and intelligence-led operations to protect commuters.
