Panic gripped Kurfa community in Bukuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State after heavily armed bandits launched a daring daylight attack, abducting an unspecified number of residents.
The Zamfara State Police Command confirmed that the assailants invaded the village on April 2, firing sporadically and causing chaos as terrified residents fled for safety.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, the attackers operated for a prolonged period before escaping with their victims to an unknown destination.
Security forces, including police operatives, the military and other agencies, swiftly mobilised to the scene following a distress call, but the bandits had already fled. Tactical teams have since launched a manhunt and are trailing the suspects.
Some residents who escaped into nearby bushes were rescued and rushed to hospital for treatment, while efforts are ongoing to determine the exact number of those abducted.
The Command assured that intensified operations are underway to track down the perpetrators and secure the safe return of the victims, reaffirming its commitment to restoring peace in the troubled state.
