In a dramatic turn of events, at least 142 abducted persons have regained their freedom in Zamfara State following peace negotiations with a notorious bandits’ leader.
The victims, kidnapped from Gidan Gardawa, Kyambarawa, Maguru, Kurya Madaro, Kagara, Yankaba, Madira, and Dogon Daji villages in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, were released on Wednesday morning by the kingpin identified as Muhammadu Dan Sadiya.
Sources confirmed that the abductees were freed unconditionally at about 8:30 a.m. on August 27. They were immediately taken to General Hospital, Kaura Namoda, for medical examination and debriefing before being reunited with their families.
The release, security sources said, forms part of the Federal Government’s non-kinetic strategy aimed at restoring peace in the North West and securing the safe return of victims still in captivity.
