Tragedy struck in Madaddaban Fegi Village, Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State, as suspected armed bandits launched a deadly attack on Tuesday, killing a 30-year-old resident before fleeing into the dense Safana Forest.
According to intelligence sources, the assailants stormed the village outskirts around 1:00 p.m., shooting and killing Sanusi Iliyasu in cold blood.
Security forces responded swiftly to the distress call, but the attackers had already melted into the forest before their arrival.
The victim’s remains were taken to the General Hospital in Batsari for an autopsy before being released to his family for burial according to Islamic rites.
The attack adds to the growing insecurity in the region, with residents calling for intensified military operations to flush out criminal elements hiding in Katsina’s forests.
