Bandits Kill Emir’s Guard in Zamfara Highway Ambush

Borno State Government

Tragedy struck in Zamfara State on Sunday afternoon when suspected bandits ambushed members of the Emir’s palace guard, popularly known as Dogarai, along the Mayanchi–Anka road.

Security sources said the attackers opened fire on the guards during the ambush, leaving one of them, identified as Jamilu, critically wounded.

Jamilu, who traditionally carried the ceremonial umbrella of the Emir, reportedly sustained gunshot injuries during the attack and was rushed for treatment at Gusau General Hospital.

Despite efforts by medical personnel to save his life, the palace guard later died from the injuries he sustained.

The incident has once again highlighted the persistent insecurity along major highways in the state, where travellers and residents continue to face the threat of armed bandit attacks.

Observers say the latest tragedy underscores the growing dangers faced daily by citizens navigating rural roads in Zamfara and other parts of Nigeria’s North-West.

Residents and community leaders have renewed calls for stronger security presence and decisive action to curb the activities of bandits who continue to carry out deadly attacks on highways across the region.
