Bandits Feared to Have Killed Abducted NYSC Member After Collecting N10m Ransom

Borno State Government

Fear and grief have engulfed the family of an abducted member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Abba, who is believed to have been killed by his captors despite the payment of a ₦10 million ransom.

Family sources disclosed that all communication with the kidnappers abruptly stopped after the ransom was paid, raising strong suspicions that the corps member may have been murdered.

According to the sources, the abductors initially demanded the ₦10 million ransom and later asked the family to provide additional items, including motorcycles, after receiving the payment.

However, the family said it refused to meet the new demands following the sudden silence from the kidnappers.

“Since receiving the ₦10 million ransom payment, Abba’s abductors have completely cut off all communication with the family,” a source close to the family revealed.

With no word from the kidnappers and mounting fears over his fate, the family said it had begun arrangements to hold his funeral prayer in absentia in line with Islamic tradition.

“Abba’s family are preparing to observe his Janaza prayer (Gha’ib) on Friday, March 6, in accordance with Islamic rites,” the source said.

The family also expressed deep appreciation to individuals and groups who offered prayers, financial assistance and moral support during the ordeal.

“Abba’s family wishes to express profound gratitude to everyone who supported them with prayers, donations and kind words during this difficult period. May the Almighty reward your generosity abundantly,” the statement said.

They added that the family continued to pray for a miracle.

“If he is still alive, we pray that Allah grants him freedom soon. And if he has passed on, may Allah forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds and grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus,” the family member said.
