At least eight people have been abducted after armed bandits launched a late-night attack on Biresawa village in Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
The attackers stormed the community around 11pm, moving quietly on foot and armed with rifles. Residents said they broke into several homes and abducted six women and two men before escaping into a nearby forest. One of the victims’ relatives said his wife, teenage daughter and sister-in-law were among those taken.
Villagers said they had earlier raised an alarm to local security personnel after receiving intelligence that the bandits were approaching, but help did not reach the area before the attack occurred. The raid also extended to other nearby settlements, including Sarmawa, Yan Chibi and Gano, causing widespread panic through the night.
The incident has triggered renewed fear across Tsanyawa and surrounding border communities, with some residents fleeing to safer locations. It follows a series of recent attacks in rural parts of Kano, particularly within areas that share boundaries with Katsina State, where criminal groups have intensified operations.
Authorities in Kano have yet to issue a formal statement, but local leaders are calling for urgent reinforcement to prevent further assaults on vulnerable communities.
