Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has taken to X (formerly Twitter) to condemn the arrest of Professor Usman Yusuf, a vocal government critic, calling it a blatant act of political suppression.

“Two days ago, the nation was jolted by the arrest of Professor Usman Yusuf, a fierce and unyielding social critic,” Atiku wrote. “Though the charges against him have been festering since the previous administration, it is impossible to ignore the strong likelihood that his detention is politically motivated.”

Atiku accused the Tinubu administration of shielding corrupt allies while using state institutions to silence opposition voices. “It is absurd that while the administration shelters those under investigation, it continues to exploit state institutions to stifle dissent under the false pretense of combating corruption,” he added.
