Amidst a three-week blackout crippling the Southeast, Northwest, and Northeast regions of Nigeria, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar took to his X account to express deep concern over the nation’s worsening electricity crisis.
Abubakar called on relevant government bodies to intervene urgently, warning of the long-term effects of inaction.
Pointing to his detailed Policy Document, My Covenant with Nigerians, he highlighted his belief that decentralizing the power sector is the key to lasting improvement.
“Every state should be empowered to generate, transmit, and distribute electricity independently,” he emphasized, noting that localized disruptions should never paralyze industrial activities across the entire nation.
Abubakar advocates for a balanced approach between renewable and non-renewable energy sources, tailored to Nigeria’s diverse resources, and calls for investment in mini-grid systems that can support a robust national super-grid.
His vision calls for a self-sustaining and investor-friendly power sector, driving Nigeria “out of perennial darkness” and towards energy independence.
