The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has pledged the Nigerian Army’s continued dedication to restoring peace and stability in Yobe State.
During his visit to Governor Mai Mala Buni in Damaturu on Sunday, as part of his operational tour of the Joint Task Force, North-East, Operation HADIN KAI, Oluyede assured that the troops would be well-equipped and supported to safeguard lives and property.
He applauded the state government and its residents for their steadfast support of military operations, promising to enhance the welfare of soldiers and bolster their operational capacity.
Governor Buni, in response, expressed gratitude for the Army Chief’s visit and called for intensified efforts to address lingering security threats. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the military, honoring the sacrifices of fallen heroes.
“We deeply appreciate the sacrifices of the Nigerian Army and pray for the repose of the souls of our gallant soldiers,” Buni said.
Update on Operation Desert Sanity IV
The Nigerian Army confirmed the loss of 22 soldiers, including Lt.-Col. T.E. Alari, Commanding Officer of the 149 Battalion, during an ISWAP VBIED attack in the Timbuktu Triangle, Borno State. The assault occurred amid Operation Desert Sanity IV, a mission aimed at neutralizing terrorist strongholds.
Despite the setback, the Army neutralized over 60 insurgents and recovered weapons and motorcycles during the week-long operation.
Meanwhile, reports of a dislodged military base in Malam Fatori, Yobe State, were dismissed as misleading. The Army clarified that no such incident occurred, reiterating its commitment to transparency and operational success.
Lt.-Gen. Oluyede called on troops to remain resolute, saying, “Your resilience is commendable. Together, we will crush these adversaries and restore peace to our nation.”
