The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a man in possession of a cache of police gear, a pistol, and suspicious credentials during a midnight patrol operation.
The suspect, identified as Iniobong Ezekiel Sunday from Adiasim Ikot Eko Village in INI Local Government Area, was intercepted at around 12:05 a.m. on July 20 during a targeted anti-crime and surveillance patrol.
Upon searching his bag, officers discovered a locally made pistol, a full police uniform bearing the name “EKPENYONG ATTE” with Force Number 062763 and sergeant rank, a second black police outfit, police photographs, badges, an inspector’s lanyard, a bicycle, and multiple credentials linked to one Ukpong Helina Tom.
Police say the suspect is currently undergoing profiling as investigations continue.
Spokesperson for the Command, DSP Timfon John, praised the officers for their alertness and rapid response, noting that the operation reaffirms the Force’s dedication to rooting out criminal elements from the state.
“The Akwa Ibom Police Command remains resolute in its commitment to public safety and the integrity of the Force,” she said.
