The Court of Appeal in Abuja has ordered MTN Nigeria Communications Limited to pay ₦15 million in damages for unlawfully deducting airtime from a subscriber.
Delivering judgment on Friday, a three-justice panel unanimously condemned MTN’s actions, describing the deductions for unsolicited services as fraudulent. The court emphasized that such practices undermine consumer trust and violate customers’ rights.
The ruling serves as a warning to telecommunications companies to uphold ethical standards and respect their subscribers’ consent. MTN is yet to release an official statement on the verdict.
