Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has drawn a bold red line under the swirling 2027 conjecture, declaring reports of a planned replacement of Vice President Kashim Shettima as “false, baseless and mischievous.”
In a crisp press statement issued Monday in Abuja, the party dismissed the growing media buzz suggesting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu might be shopping for a new running mate. The APC said the rumours recently took an “alarming turn” with specific names floated—claims it described as calculated attempts to stir confusion and discord.
“There is no truth to these stories,” the party said flatly, urging media organisations to deny oxygen to rumour-peddlers and shadowy “sources” bent on destabilising the polity.
The APC reminded Nigerians that a legal ban on political activities remains in force, stressing that any talk of tickets and permutations is not only premature but deliberately distracting. Instead, the party said its full attention is fixed on governance—backing President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima as they drive the Renewed Hope Agenda, roll out bold reforms, and steady the economy toward growth and shared prosperity.
In a pointed caution, the ruling party also advised ministers, senior government officials and party leaders to steer clear of comments that could—knowingly or otherwise—fuel needless speculation. Their priority, the statement said, is diligent service and amplifying the administration’s achievements.
