The war of words between Nigeria’s major political blocs intensified on Thursday as the All Progressives Congress (APC) launched a blistering attack on the African Democratic Congress (ADC), declaring the opposition party solely responsible for its deepening internal crisis.
In a strongly worded statement issued in Abuja, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, dismissed the ADC as “confused and desperate,” accusing it of peddling conspiracy theories to deflect from what he described as self-inflicted turmoil.
The ruling party alleged that the ADC’s troubles began with what it termed an unlawful takeover of its leadership structure by a faction led by David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, arguing that the move violated the party’s constitution and due process.
APC further backed the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to de-recognize the factional leadership, insisting the action was in line with court rulings and democratic principles.
“It is escapist and irresponsible for the ADC to blame others for a crisis of its own making,” the statement read, stressing that a party unable to manage its internal affairs cannot be trusted with national leadership.
The APC also accused the ADC of lacking clear policy direction, claiming its primary focus has been relentless attacks on the ruling party rather than offering viable alternatives to Nigerians.
Reaffirming confidence in the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC said it remains committed to delivering on its Renewed Hope Agenda while strengthening democratic institutions across the country.
The latest exchange underscores rising political tensions ahead of future electoral contests, with both parties digging in for what promises to be a fierce battle for public trust.
