In a powerful tribute to Africa’s shared history, Angola has honoured Nigeria’s late former Head of State, General Murtala Muhammed, alongside former President Olusegun Obasanjo and ex-Minister of External Affairs, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, for their pivotal roles in Africa’s emancipation.
The awards ceremony, held over the weekend in Luanda, formed part of Angola’s golden jubilee celebrations marking 50 years of independence. The event spotlighted Nigeria’s historic support for Angola’s liberation struggle and its long-standing commitment to African solidarity.
Angola’s government and people hailed the trio as symbols of courage, vision, and unwavering dedication to the continent’s freedom. “Their efforts not only shaped Nigeria’s history but also left an indelible mark on Africa’s fight against colonialism,” organisers said.
