The Commissioner of Police in Anambra state Mr Echeng Echeng has deployed Police Operatives to different strategic areas in the state.
This followed the receipt of information by the State Police Command of protest by students of various tertiary institutions under the auspices of the National Association Of Nigerian Students NANS, Anambra State Chapter .
The protest was against the ongoing Academic Staff Union of Universities , ASUU strike action in the country,
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer , Mr Tochukwu Ikenga says the Operatives deployed are to compliment already personnel sent to those areas.
They are to address any breakdown of law and order that may arise as a result of the protest.
The students who came out in their numbers carrying banners and placards of various inscriptions marched from Aroma junction along Enugu/Onitsha Expressway thereby causing temporary traffic gridlock in the area.
The press release notes that Police Operatives on ground professionally handled the situation without any record of security breach.
After the address by a representative from Anambra State Government at about 3pm ,the protesters later dispersed.
Meanwhile, the situation is still being monitored closely.
