The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured Nigerians that it is taking urgent steps to resolve the network challenges experienced during the voter accreditation test in Anambra State ahead of the governorship election scheduled for November 8, 2025.
INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, SAN, made this known during a meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) held in Abuja. He reaffirmed the commission’s readiness to conduct a credible, transparent, and peaceful election.
According to Amupitan, INEC will deploy about 24,000 officials across 5,718 polling units, with results expected to be collated at three levels — ward, local government, and the state collation center in Awka.
He also announced an extension of the Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collection period from October 29 to November 2, 2025, to give every registered voter the opportunity to collect their card before election day.
The INEC chairman commended security agencies and transport unions for their support toward ensuring a smooth and peaceful exercise, warning that anyone caught engaging in vote buying or electoral malpractice would face the full wrath of the law.
INEC revealed that about 2.8 million registered voters are expected to participate in the election. Final preparations include the conclusion of campaign activities on November 6, two days before the polls open on November 8, 2025.
