Armed bandits launched a deadly attack on Gidan Tofa and Dan Nakwabo villages in Kankara LGA, leaving a trail of devastation.
The assault, which occurred around 1500hrs, resulted in the deaths of 20 villagers, four police officers, and two members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC).
The bandits, heavily armed and riding motorcycles, ambushed the responding Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) patrol team, leading to a fierce firefight. In addition to the casualties, two villagers were injured.
Upon learning of the ambush, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) quickly mobilized additional forces to restore order.
Preliminary investigations confirmed the severity of the attack, with 15 villagers killed in Gidan Boka and five more in Dan Nakwabo as the bandits fled.
Katsina State Police Command has deployed additional operational assets to the area and is working closely with stakeholders to prevent further attacks and apprehend the perpetrators.
The Commissioner of Police expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims.
