The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property as it hosted a high-level Stakeholders’ Security Meeting on Monday at its headquarters in Uyo, bringing together traditional leaders, clerics, labour unions, student groups, market associations, transport unions, civil society representatives, and the media.
Presiding over the meeting, Commissioner of Police CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, declared that Akwa Ibom remains one of the most peaceful states in the country—thanks to sustained patrols, intelligence-led operations, and inter-agency collaboration. He assured residents that the Command is fully alert and working round-the-clock to maintain the state’s stable security environment.
But the CP issued a strong warning over the recent circulation of unverified security alerts and fake news on social media, describing the trend as dangerous and capable of generating needless panic. He urged the public to ignore such misinformation and rely strictly on verified updates from credible security sources.
CP Azare also called for deeper community participation in the fight against crime, emphasizing that no neighborhood can be safe if residents protect criminals among them. He urged community leaders and youth groups to expose perpetrators of armed robbery, cultism, vandalism, drug trafficking, and other offences.
Stakeholders who spoke—including CAN Chairman Bishop Chris Nyong, traditional ruler Edidem Sylvanus Okon, CHRAN Chairman Otuekong Franklyn Isong, and NLC Chairman Comrade Sunny James—praised the Command’s proactive security measures and pledged stronger collaboration with the police.
The meeting ended with a unanimous commitment from all stakeholders to intensify information sharing, support ongoing security initiatives, and work together to preserve the peace Akwa Ibom enjoys.
The Command assured residents of its unwavering dedication to maintaining law and order across the state, urging the public to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or security agency.
