Katsina state government

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has secured 23 criminal convictions in just six months, marking a significant victory in its fight against crime across the state.

The announcement, made by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, revealed that the convictions – secured between January and July 2025 – covered a range of offences including stealing, assault, burglary, felony, and escape from lawful custody, with punishments spanning from two weeks to three years imprisonment.

At the helm of the Command is Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, whose leadership since assuming office in late 2024 has ushered in a wave of reforms. His approach, grounded in enhanced community policing, rapid response units, professional retraining of officers, and direct field supervision, is being credited for the sharp drop in crime.

According to the Command, areas like Uyo, Ikot Ekpene, Oron, and Eket have experienced a remarkable decrease in violent crimes and burglary, with residents reporting increased safety and renewed confidence in law enforcement.

“All legal procedures were conducted strictly in accordance with the Constitution and global best practices,” the statement emphasized, highlighting the transparency and professionalism that led to the convictions.

CP Azare lauded his officers for their dedication, promising rewards for outstanding performance, and expressed gratitude to the judiciary and Ministry of Justice for their collaboration.

With these convictions under its belt, the Command has pledged to maintain momentum through intelligence-led policing, strategic patrols, and public awareness campaigns, vowing to continue building public trust and long-term peace in the state.

This achievement underscores a new era for the Akwa Ibom Police — one where justice isn’t just promised, but delivered.
