The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has taken a decisive step to strengthen modern policing with a two-day, high-impact capacity-building workshop for its senior officers, in partnership with the Rule of Law and Empowerment Initiative (Partners West Africa Nigeria).
The intensive programme, holding on Tuesday, February 3 and Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at the Police Headquarters in Uyo, is designed to sharpen professional competence, boost operational effectiveness, and enhance leadership capacity across the Command’s top ranks.
Opening the workshop, the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, mnipr, fsi, underscored the imperative of continuous learning in an era of fast-evolving security challenges. He described the collaboration with Partners West Africa Nigeria as a clear statement of the Command’s resolve to align policing practices with global best standards.
According to CP Azare, advanced training remains critical to effective crime prevention, protection of human rights, and the consolidation of trust between the police and the communities they serve. “A professional, adaptive, and people-centred police force is central to sustainable security,” he noted, stressing that the workshop would equip officers with tools suited to contemporary law enforcement realities.
The curriculum features practical sessions on advanced investigative techniques, human-rights-based policing, cybercrime awareness, and community-oriented policing strategies—key areas increasingly shaping policing outcomes nationwide.
Partners West Africa Nigeria, a respected civil society organisation, is renowned for its work in promoting the rule of law, security sector reform, and good governance across Nigeria and the West African sub-region. Its collaboration with the Akwa Ibom Police Command further reinforces the shared goal of building accountable and effective security institutions.
Observers say the initiative reflects a proactive approach to personnel development by the Command and signals an unwavering commitment to a safer, fairer, and more law-abiding society—driven by a professional and empowered police force.
