A swift crackdown on stolen vehicles and goods, operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested three suspects in separate raids on scrap dump yards in Uyo.
Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, the operation was launched around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, targeting notorious hotspots for dismantled vehicles and stolen property.
At Mechanic Village along Abak Road, police nabbed Uzoma Uche while he was allegedly dismembering a Peugeot 404 pick-up van with no identifying particulars — raising strong suspicion that it was stolen.
In a follow-up operation at another scrap dump, officers apprehended two men, Alhassan Haliru, 29, and Aminu Zailai, 30, as they attempted to sell a set of new spanners. Under interrogation, both confessed to stealing the tools from a local shop.
Police say investigations are ongoing, warning that stolen goods dealers will face the full weight of the law.
