Akpabio Mocks Protesters, “We’ll Be Eating While You Protest”

Katsina state government

In a provocative statement, Senate President Godswill Akpabio has ridiculed those planning to protest against the economic hardship in Nigeria.

Speaking at a Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) event in Rivers State, Akpabio said, “Those who want to protest can protest, but let us be there eating.”

This comes as the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, urged organizers to consider a virtual protest, which they rejected in favor of street demonstrations set to begin on August 1.

Akpabio emphasized that the current economic challenges are temporary and affirmed support for the administration, dismissing any calls for regime change.

He also pledged the National Assembly’s commitment to addressing environmental issues in the Niger Delta through legislative action and assured that these concerns would be communicated to President Tinibu.
