Airstrikes Smash Midnight Terror Assault on Goniri Military Base

Borno State Government

Several terrorists were neutralised in the early hours of Monday after the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai launched a swift and coordinated air response to an attack on troops at the 120 Battalion military base in Goniri, Yobe State.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the attack occurred at about 12:15 a.m. when insurgents attempted to overrun the military formation located in Goniri.

According to the sources, the terrorists infiltrated the military position and engaged troops in a fierce gun battle after breaching parts of the defensive perimeter.

However, troops on ground immediately sent a distress call, prompting a rapid response from the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai.

“Upon receiving the distress call from troops on ground, the Air Component immediately scrambled fighter aircraft to provide close air support,” a source disclosed.

Fighter jets reportedly arrived within minutes, located the hostile elements around the base and launched precision strikes on the insurgents’ positions.
“The aircraft released two bombs on the terrorists’ positions with devastating accuracy, eliminating at least 10 insurgents who attempted to flee upon sighting the fighter jets,” the source added.

Swift air intervention disrupted the assault and restored the tactical advantage to troops defending the base, preventing the terrorists from overrunning the military location.

Military sources said the coordinated air-ground response once again demonstrated the growing effectiveness of joint operations under Operation Hadin Kai in countering insurgent attacks in the North-East.
