The Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) on Sunday, August 4, 2025, dealt a decisive blow to terror elements gathering for a wedding at the foot of Asola Hills in Yankuzo Ward, Tsafe LGA of Zamfara State.
The precision strike—prompted by actionable intelligence—targeted a massive convergence of terrorists from Katsina’s Faskari and Kankara axes, as well as various enclaves across Zamfara. The result: over 30 terrorists neutralized, several critically wounded, and a major disruption of criminal plans in the region.
The operation didn’t end in the skies. Troops of 1 Brigade under Sector 2 of OPFY launched a ground follow-up mission in the early hours of August 5, successfully breaking through an ambush on the route to Yankuzo village, where injured terrorists had reportedly been ferried for medical aid.
Reliable sources confirmed that the airstrike, coupled with the ground assault, dealt a heavy blow to the criminal network. Among the casualties were four known collaborators from Kunchin Kalgo village who sustained life-threatening injuries.
Residents of Yankuzo, Tsafe, and surrounding communities—long plagued by violent attacks—expressed relief and renewed hope following the successful operation.
Captain David Adewusi, Media Information Officer for OPFY, reaffirmed the military’s resolve: “We remain fully committed to restoring peace and protecting the good people of Zamfara and the North West.”
