The Borno Geographic Information Service (BOGIS) has reaffirmed its commitment to efficient governance and quality service delivery with the successful hosting of its annual capacity-building staff retreat, a flagship programme designed to strengthen administrative performance and boost staff morale.
The retreat, a tradition sustained since the agency’s inception, provided a platform for performance review, reflection on milestones achieved in the outgoing year, and intensive training aimed at sharpening institutional efficiency.
Declaring the retreat open, Executive Secretary, Engr. Adam Bukar Babaabe, said the programme was strategically designed to consolidate gains recorded by the agency and prepare staff for improved productivity in the coming year.
Engr. Babaabe noted that despite workforce changes occasioned by retirements, transfers and bereavements, BOGIS has continued on a steady growth path, recording notable improvements in service delivery across the state.
He stressed that continuous and rigorous training remains non-negotiable for achieving optimal results, urging participants to engage fully with facilitators and contribute actively to all sessions.
In their goodwill messages, Legal Adviser, Barrister Mustapha Ali Ibrahim, and Director of Administration and Supply, Yakili Zannah, described the retreat as timely and impactful, calling on staff to translate the knowledge acquired into better administrative practice and efficiency.
Delivering a paper titled “Motivation for Optimal Performance and Productivity in the Public Service,” Dr. Umar Alkali Goni emphasized that motivated workers are the backbone of effective service delivery. He identified a conducive work environment, adequate office equipment, continuous training and staff welfare as critical drivers of productivity.
Dr. Goni also commended Engr. Babaabe for his consistent commitment to staff motivation, citing capacity-building programmes and welfare incentives, including the recent sponsorship of deserving Muslim and Christian staff for Hajj and pilgrimage.
Another paper, “Public Personnel Administration,” was presented by Mohammed Kagu of Abba Ashigar College of Business and Management Studies, Konduga. He described public personnel administration as the structured management of human resources in government institutions through planning, coordination, direction and workforce maintenance.
Other insightful presentations included “Administrative Skills, Clerical Operations and Effective Workflows as Tools for Promoting Administrative Efficiency” by Tsarba Ndirbitah Wadai, and “Effective Communication in the Workplace” by Haman Modu.
Participants, including Usman Lamini, Babagana Bunu, Barrister Sharifa, and Alheri Andurus, lauded the leadership of Engr. Babaabe for prioritising staff development, noting that such initiatives have significantly boosted morale, professionalism and overall service delivery at BOGIS.
A highlight of the retreat was a poem recitation by Isabella Ibrahim, a JSS One student, who paid tribute to the Executive Secretary’s leadership and dedication to advancing land reforms in Borno State.
The retreat closed on a note of renewed commitment, with staff pledging to apply the skills gained towards building a more efficient, responsive and service-driven BOGIS.
