It was a moment of nostalgia, pride, and celebration as members of the Kayalwa Primary School Alumni Association (1974–1980 set) gathered in Katsina for their first reunion in 46 years, marking a historic milestone since their graduation.
The colourful event, held within the premises of their alma mater, drew an impressive turnout of former classmates and teachers, rekindling old friendships and honoring decades of achievements across various fields.
Highlight of the reunion was the recognition of distinguished members who have excelled in public service and professional careers.
Among those honoured for meritorious retirement were Brigadier General A.K. Lawal, Abdulkadir Hamza, former Director of Administration at Katsina State Television, and Dr. Ibrahim Ahmed Keegan, former Secretary of the Katsina State Transport Authority.
Others include Abdullahi Ibrahim of the Department of State Services and Idris Magaji Saulawa of the Nigerian Correctional Service.
The association also celebrated members who have risen to prominent positions, including Nigeria’s Ambassador to Ghana, Shehu Ilu Barde; Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori; North-West Zonal Director of the National Emergency Management Agency, Aliyu Shehu Kafindangi; and Nigeria Customs Service Controller, Muhammad Idris Ingawa.
Additional honours went to Abdu Mamman Saulawa, Deputy Comptroller of the Nigerian Correctional Service; Assistant Commissioner of Police Shafa’atu Usman Audi; and several others who received special recognition awards for their contributions and community impact.
The reunion also witnessed the presence of respected former teachers, including Hamisu Gambo, Malam Hafizu Kofar Bai, and Hajiya Sahaibe Mammam Ancigile, whose attendance added emotional depth to the occasion.
Speaking at the gathering, the Chairman of the Association, Alhaji Muntari Zubairu, expressed delight over the unity among members, urging sustained cooperation, love, and patience to strengthen the bond and drive collective progress.
On behalf of award recipients, Aliyu Shehu Kafindangi appreciated the honour, pledging continued commitment to upholding the values of the association and serving as worthy ambassadors of Katsina State and Nigeria.
In a goodwill message, former teacher Hamisu Gambo commended the alumni’s unity and assured them of his continued guidance and support.
Delivering closing remarks, Dr. Ibrahim Ahmed Keegan, Chairman of the Advisory Committee, called on members to remain law-abiding and guided by the wisdom of their predecessors, while offering prayers for continued success.
The reunion not only celebrated past achievements but also rekindled a shared vision for unity, mentorship, and lasting impact—proving that even after 46 years, the bond of Kayalwa lives on.
