The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on top political heavyweights across party lines to abandon their current platforms and embrace the ADC as the coalition’s chosen vehicle ahead of 2027.
The appeal was made on Thursday in Abuja after a high-level meeting of coalition leaders, where the ADC was officially adopted in place of the still unregistered All Democratic Alliance (ADA).
National Publicity Secretary of the coalition, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the resolution was unanimous among leaders present, stressing that “the Coalition has rested everything concerning the ADA. That means they are not interested in the registration or otherwise of the association.”
Among those urged to formally move into the ADC are Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the last election, Mr. Peter Obi; former Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai of the SDP; and former Sokoto State governor, Senator Aminu Tambuwal of the PDP.
Party heavyweights at the meeting included National Chairman, Senator David Mark; former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar; National Secretary, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola; ex-governor of Kaduna, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai; ex-governor of Sokoto, Senator Aminu Tambuwal; and former Rivers governor, Chibuike Amaechi.
Abdullahi further revealed that all presidential aspirants within the coalition had resolved to rally behind whoever emerges victorious at the ADC primaries. “All the presidential aspirants have agreed to support whoever wins the primaries election,” he noted.
The coalition also mandated the National Working Committee (NWC) to set dates for primaries in Osun and Ekiti States ahead of the off-cycle governorship polls.
With heavyweight politicians rallying under the ADC banner, the party is positioning itself as a major contender in the political realignments shaping the road to 2027.
