The African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Media Frontiers has issued a scathing rebuke of former Borno State Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff, over what it described as “false and misleading remarks” targeting former presidential candidate Peter Obi.
In a press statement released Monday, the ADC condemned Sheriff’s recent comments—purportedly made at a political gathering—as “an unfortunate attempt to distort facts and misrepresent the integrity of a man whose leadership vision continues to inspire millions across Nigeria.”
The ADC National Media Frontiers did not mince words, labelling Sheriff’s outburst as “baseless, irresponsible and unprovoked,” and accused him of attempting to score cheap political points through character assassination.
“Ali Modu Sheriff’s claims are not only reckless but clearly a calculated attempt to distract Nigerians from the real issues facing our nation today—poverty, insecurity, and unemployment,” the statement read.
“Peter Obi stands tall as a symbol of accountability and good governance. He is a national asset, and no amount of falsehood will change that,” the group added.
The ADC further called on Nigeria’s political class to uphold dignity, truth, and maturity in public discourse, warning that inflammatory and misleading statements could further polarize an already divided electorate.
They urged the media and the public to “scrutinize every politically-motivated utterance with the lens of truth and patriotism,” especially as the country inches toward future elections.
While Sheriff had insinuated that Obi’s political relevance was “fading,” the ADC countered that Peter Obi remains one of the most respected political figures in Nigeria today, citing his consistent message of transparency, economic prudence, and youth empowerment.
“Unlike career politicians who switch parties like changing clothes, Peter Obi has earned his place in the hearts of Nigerians through discipline, service, and a clear vision for national rebirth,” the statement noted.
The ADC National Media Frontiers concluded with a stern warning:
“We urge Ali Modu Sheriff and others like him to desist from dragging credible leaders into the mud for political survival. Nigerians are wiser now, and propaganda will no longer sway the people.”
As Nigeria’s political climate begins to heat up ahead of the 2027 general elections, the ADC’s statement adds to the growing chorus of voices demanding issue-based politics and leadership driven by performance, not personality attacks.
