The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has set its sights on a strategic political play ahead of the 2027 general elections, revealing plans to adopt a consensus approach in selecting its presidential flagbearer.
Speaking during an appearance on One-on-One, a programme on Arise TV, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, disclosed that the ADC is actively working towards building internal agreement around a single candidate to fly its ticket.
Abdullahi explained that while the party retains the option of conducting direct primaries, consensus remains a preferred pathway to ensure unity and avoid divisive contests.
He emphasized that indirect primaries have been completely ruled out, in line with provisions of the amended Electoral Act.
The development signals a calculated move by the ADC to streamline its internal processes and present a formidable front in what is expected to be a fiercely contested 2027 presidential race.
Political analysts say the consensus strategy, if successfully executed, could help the party minimize internal friction and position itself as a serious contender against Nigeria’s dominant political forces.
