The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government to provide Nigerians with a clear and truthful explanation over what it described as growing secrecy and inconsistencies in the handling of negotiations for the release of kidnapped victims across the country.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the party expressed concern over what it termed suspicious and unclear activities surrounding the retrieval of abducted citizens, noting that the lack of transparency has continued to raise questions among Nigerians.
According to the ADC, citizens deserve to know the exact processes involved in the rescue operations, especially as incidents of kidnapping continue to rise in various states. The party warned that the apparent absence of openness could weaken public confidence in the government’s efforts to tackle insecurity.
The ADC further stated that Nigerians are no longer comfortable with vague explanations or conflicting narratives each time victims are released, stressing that the government must come clean about who is involved in the negotiations and what methods are being used.
The party also urged security agencies to intensify intelligence gathering, track the operations of kidnapping syndicates more effectively, and address the root causes that allow such criminal networks to thrive.
It added that rebuilding trust between citizens and the government requires honesty, accountability, and consistent communication on matters relating to national security.
The ADC reiterated that the rising spate of abductions demands not only swift action but also full transparency to ensure that Nigerians remain confident in the state’s ability to protect their lives and property.
