Adamawa Clampdown: Troops Smash Suicide Bombing Ring, Seize Terror Fuel

Borno State Government

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have delivered another crushing blow to terrorism in Adamawa State, dismantling a suicide bombing network and cutting off a key logistics supply line in intelligence-driven operations.

In the early hours of Sunday, January 5, 2026, OPHK forces swooped on the Yan Lemo area of Mubi South Local Government Area, executing a tightly coordinated cordon-and-search mission aimed at perpetrators and facilitators of the deadly Gamboru Market Mosque suicide bombing. The operation led to the arrest of eight suspects, including two principal figures believed to be central suppliers within the terror cell.

A thorough search of the suspects’ hideout yielded cash, mobile phones, identification documents, ATM cards, jewellery and other personal effects. Military sources said the recovered items are undergoing forensic examination to deepen investigations and unravel the full scope of the network. Crucially, a suspect already in custody positively identified the two principal suspects as suppliers of materials used in assembling the Improvised Explosive Device (IED), while additional occupants of the residence were also linked to the plot.

All arrested suspects remain in military custody and are being subjected to intensive interrogation to extract further intelligence before being handed over for extended investigation.

In a related breakthrough, OPHK troops on January 4 intercepted a major cache of suspected terrorists’ logistics in Mayo Nguli, Maiha Local Government Area. The troops seized 45 jerrycans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), estimated at about 1,125 litres, believed to have been smuggled to fuel terrorist operations. The suppliers reportedly fled on sighting the troops, abandoning the consignment. No casualties were recorded during the interception.

Military authorities say the twin successes underscore OPHK’s unwavering resolve to dismantle terror networks, choke supply chains and prevent future attacks across the North East. The Joint Task Force has again called on residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies, stressing that timely information from the public remains vital to sustaining peace and security in the region.
