The Borno State acting Governor Hon Umar USMAN Kadafur has declaresd monday the 8th July as Public Holiday to commiserate new year of Islamic Callander 1446 After Hijira.

The Hijriya New Year is the Islamic Lunar Calendar that begins on the first day of the month of Muharram, which is expected to start on either Saturday, July 6 or Sunday, July 7 2024, depending on moon sighting.

This was Contains in a statement signed and made available to Dandal Kura Radio International by the Hon. Commsionner for Information and Internal Security, Prof. Usman Tar in Maiduguri.

The statement says the Acting Governor of Borno State Hon Umar Usman Kadafur has approved that Monday 8 July 2024 shall be a Public Holiday in Borno State to commemorate the New Islamic Year respectively.

The statement further explains that The first day of Muharram marks the Hijra, migration of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) from Makkah to Madinah in 622 AD. It is also one of the four sacred months of the Islamic Year as mentioned in the Holy Qur’an by almighty Allah subhana huwa Ta’ala.

The Acting Governor On behalf of the Borno State Government, wishes Muslims in Borno State, Nigeria and across the world, a peaceful, harmonious and productive New Islamic Year, he enjoined the Muslim community to remain committed to the virtues of moderation, piety, tolerance, respect, dignity and patriotism, which are also universal values.

He further admonished Muslims to live peacefully with other faithful communities, while building ties of fraternity, generosity and mercy that bind the human family together.
